Lando Norris Edges Out Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
Lando Norris has outscored Oscar Piastri at each of the previous five grands prix.
Lando Norris edged out team-mate and championship contender the Australian for the quickest lap in the final moments of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who seized the title advantage from his teammate by just one point after winning in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, beat the Australian by a mere 0.023s.
Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the leading McLaren for most of the session before the sprint shootout scheduled for the evening session.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in the points battle, sitting 36 points behind Norris, was classified in 17th place as his Red Bull team opted for a different programme.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to go off, albeit lightly, when he lost control at corner four during the early running.
Tsunoda spun out over the curbs on exit before spinning across the run-off area, and was lucky to escape with just a light touch of the fence.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the final moments of the practice, turning around through the quick descending Mergulho turn approaching the final corner on to the main straight.
The veteran wrapped up in 19th place, one place behind teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren drivers were far ahead of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's car third fastest, over half a second off the Australian's time.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' George Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
